Additional information

Established on January 17th 1900 and known as “The Cathedral”, the “Playa Grande (Big Beach) Course” is located in the most expensive lot in the city, housed in a side of a hill in front of Mar del Plata Port. It is one of those type of courses that you won’t find often. It is a short course (6,100 yards, par 70) but quite challenging if the wind is blowing; this course is a true “golf jewel”. Please don’t panic if one day you shoot with your drive and iron #9 in a Par 4 and, on the following day, you don’t reach the hole with a drive and wood #3; these are some of the things that happen here. When “Playa Grande” is ready for tournaments (during summer), the greens and fairways get too hard and running.  Maybe, its main peculiarity is that, no matter the line you take, your putter will always fall towards the sea. As it is one of the clubs that founded the Argentine Golf Association and a very traditional one, the caddies are true specialists and you will need them if you want to achieve a logical score: always point towards the goal your caddie recommend, not only from the tee but also from the fairway and, mainly, on the green as strategy is of utmost importance here. Every year, this club hosts one of the most important Open Tournaments in the country, the “Southern Open” where the best local golfers participate; and, in 1990, it hosted the Argentine Open, too. Its grand Tudor-style clubhouse (similar to the Jockey Club, in Buenos Aires) offers great facilities.

The Good & The Bad

Amazing Layout Hard Ground / Very Windy

Signature Hole

8th Hole / Par 3 / 126 yards:
Although the course has alot of excellent holes, this is the best short/tough par 3 I've ever played. With only 126 yards, against the wind you can shoot even with #5 iron. The green is "small as a coin" and rolls fast to the sea, you need to get it from the tee to have par/birdie chances. If you miss the green you ARE GONE!
